Looking at acid violence through the lens of survivor Laxmi Agarwal, Chhapaak tells the story of a girl (Malti) coming from an unprivileged but humble background. When Malti refuses the advances made by a man twice her age, she is attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi. With her face irreparably burnt, Malti undergoes medico-social rehabilitation, a prolonged string of facial surgeries, a legal battle against her attacker and a constant struggle to become economically independent.It is a big furor for the people
During this time, Malti also joins a campaign against Acid violence and comes across other victims. She forms an inexplicable bond with Amol, the founder of the campaign but it is Malti`s game-changing PIL in the Supreme Court of India, with her lawyer Archana Bajaj, that inspires the Judiciary to amend the laws on acid violence. A story of the triumph of the unquashable human spirit.

The story of Laxmi who belong to middle class family in Delhi. Her dreamed to be a singer at fifteen years old one day he meets Naeem khan, 32 he wanted to marry laxmi but she was not interested. So he refused to take no the answer and stalker her, but she continues rejected his proposal.
In 2005 , One day laxmi was on her way to book shop in khan market when she was confront by Naeem who through acid on her face. Laxmi get felt down on street with pain, until a taxi driver came forward and tare her to nearby safdarjung hospital
After that she had to undergo with multiple surgeries and was in the hospital from three months. And there was no mirror in the ward. Every morning tne nurse bring bowl of water to help her freashen up. And she was try to she her face on the reflection of water but she would only see glance of a bandaged face. When she was first saw her devasted face it was a shock to her.
After that horrific attack couldn't bring laxmi down. In 2006 . She filled a public interest litigation in Supreme Court and case on total ban on sale of acid. In 2013 the court ruled in her favour and restrictions on the sale of acid. in the same year laxmi start campaigns for stop acid attacks founded by Alok Dixit and Ashish Shukla.
Now laxmi became the voice of acid attack survivors, For her courage she was honoured by former first Lady Michelle Obama with the International women for her Courageous Award.
During her stint with stop acid attack laxmi and Alok fell in love and they decided not to marry and opted a live in relation. Because they don't want people come to there wedding and comment on her looks.
Soon after laxmi and Alok daughter pihu was born the couple went there separate ways due to some reason and laxmi was struggling to find employment as well as housing.
